    Oxygen, the most vital element, is the key to good health. We can live without water for weeks and go without food for months, but we can survive for only minutes without oxygen. Oxygen is the life-giving, life-sustaining element. Approximately 90% of the body's energy is created by oxygen. All of the body's activities, from brain function to elimination, are regulated by oxygen. Our ability to think, feel and act comes from the energy created by oxygen. The best way to optimize health is to be sure that we oxygenate every cell in our body. The more oxygen we have in our system, the more energy we produce. This is more important today that ever before, because of a general deficiency of oxygen intake.

    One of the many reasons for a lack of oxygen is our polluted atmosphere. 200 years ago, the air was composed of 38% oxygen and 1% carbon dioxide. Today, it is 19% oxygen and 25% carbon dioxide.

    There is less oxygen in our system to produce vital metabolic energy. It is vitally important that we increase our intake of oxygen.

    Insufficient oxygen means insufficient biological energy that can result in anything from mild fatigue to life-threatening disease. The link between insufficient oxygen and disease has been firmly established.

    Dr. Otto Warburg, twice Nobel Laureate, was awarded the Nobel Prize for discovering the cause of cancer. He said, 'Cancer has only one prime cause. The prime cause of cancer is the replacement of normal oxygen respiration of body cells by an anaerobic (lacking oxygen) cell respiration.' In other words, the growth of cancer cells is initiated by a relative lack of oxygen. Cancers cannot live in an oxygen-rich environment.

    The presence of oxygen can make the difference between health and disease. In Oxidation Catalysts, an article written in the Journal of American Association of Physicians, Dr. W. Spencer Way writes:

    'internal respiration is the exchange of oxygen for carbon dioxide which takes place at the individual cell level. Without this, normal metabolism cannot take place, since it is the oxidation (burning) of the nutritional elements which makes for their complete assimilation by the cell. Likewise, oxidation of the waste products of the cell metabolism makes possible their complete elimination. So, if we assure that the cells in question do receive proper nutritional elements - vitamins, minerals, proteins, hormones, etc. in the presence of a normal oxidation process, we should have healthy cells and thus healthy tissues.'

    The ability of an organism to function depends essentially on its capacity to absorb and utilize oxygen. In other words its cellular respiration rate. In order to insure this, it is necessary to maintain a sufficient blood and tissue acid-alkaline balance, our food should therefore contain an abundance of alkaline-based ingredients.

    Unfortunately, even the most balanced diet may at times prove deficient in this regard and hence our alkaline reserve may be inadequate for our body's needs.
